PRP THERAPY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is PRP?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves the following steps: First, the blood is drawn in our office. Then, the blood is spun down in a centrifuge, which allows for the separation of the components. Afterward, the platelet-rich portion is removed and injected into the scalp. The activated platelets in the PRP release growth factors that stimulate the hair follicles.
What does the PRP treatment do?
PRP helps stimulate natural hair regrowth, decrease hair loss, and increase hair density and thickness.
Am I a good candidate for PRP hair restoration?
If you are in overall good health, have weak hair follicles, and are experiencing small areas of alopecia areata on your scalp, you are an ideal candidate for this treatment.
Patients who are undergoing cortisone therapy, have low blood pressure, or are smokers may not be good candidates for PRP hair restoration.
Additionally, patients with blood disorders may not be ideal candidates for this treatment, particularly if these disorders affect platelet count or the ability to clot properly.
What is the treatment schedule like?
PRP therapy for hair loss is initially performed as a series of three treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. After completing the initial series, maintenance is recommended with one treatment every 6-12 months.
What are the benefits of getting PRP treatment?
PRP is a way that hair growth can be stimulated, which is beneficial for patients who are not good candidates for a hair transplant or for those who cannot afford the downtime of a transplant.
What kinds of results can I expect?
Results from PRP therapy vary and are typically seen within six months of the first treatment. The best outcomes are seen in patients who have hair thinning, but not completely bald spots on their heads.
